Summer is the perfect time to boost your child’s reading skills!

We know the skills that they need to be a proficient reader.  Now, what is the most effective way to actually learn?

The challenge is to make it fun and effective.

📖Frequent Practice

Read every day, even for just 15-20-30 minutes.

Daily habits create big results! Think of going to the gym – several times a week, even for less time, is better than just one longer session in a week.

Remember: consistency beats perfection. Happy reading!

📈Adaptive Learning:

Choose books that match your child’s level.

If they read “cat” easily, try “catch” next. Like climbing stairs, each step should be just right – not too easy, not too hard.

We use an 80:20 rule – that is, 80% of the time practicing, reinforcing skills, and allowing children to do things automatically. The saying is that “practice makes perfect,” but really “practice makes permanent.” And the other 20% of the time? We give the students new material to challenge them. Novelty maintains their curiosity and, importantly, their participation.

🧩Simultaneous Skills:

Work on multiple skills at once.

For example, while reading a story or practicing letter sounds, we mix in skills like attention building or memory growth and so on. So your child can not only learn more effectively but also become a better learner across all subjects overall.

👏Timely Feedback:

Give immediate praise and gentle help.

When your child sounds out “butterfly” correctly, celebrate right away! If they struggle with “through,” help them immediately. The quicker the feedback when a child needs help, the quicker they can overcome the challenge.

📚Keep It Engaging:

Let your child pick books about their interests – dinosaurs, princesses, or sports.

Reading aloud together builds strong foundations. Change screen time to reading time. Learning to read using a screen allows lots of innovative teaching techniques.

Technology gives a more complete picture of your child’s progress.

The data recording gives us the information to adapt the reading program to be more effective.

Consistency beats perfection. Happy reading!
